Hudspeth County

Sierra Blanca, Texas

Sierra Blanca is the county seat of Hudspeth County, Texas. It's an unincorporated community located in the Trans-Pecos region of far West Texas, part of the census-designated place (CDP) also named Sierra Blanca. 


  • Location:The town is situated approximately 70 miles southeast of El Paso, in south-central Hudspeth County. 
  • Historical Significance: Sierra Blanca was made the county seat when Hudspeth County was formed in 1917, breaking off from El Paso County. 
  • Unique Courthouse:The Hudspeth County Courthouse, located in Sierra Blanca, is the only adobe courthouse in Texas


In Sierra Blanca, Texas, you can explore the unique adobe courthouse, visit the Railroad Depot Hudspeth County Museum, and enjoy scenic drives along the roadside parks. For a taste of history, visit the old hotel and the Best Cafe's vintage sign.


  • Hudspeth County Courthouse:This is the only courthouse in Texas built with adobe, offering a glimpse into the region's architectural history. 
  • Railroad Depot Hudspeth County Museum:Explore railroad memorabilia, local history, and Native American artifacts at this museum located in the Southern Pacific Depot. 
  • Roadside Parks:These unique roadside parks, inspired by the area's desert landscape and history, offer covered picnic areas and scenic views. 
  • Old Hotel & Best Café:While no longer serving, the old hotel's neon sign and the Best Café's vintage sign are worth a photo.
